Bridges treatment at Maypole Dental Surgery

Bridges

Replace missing teeth with a fixed, natural-looking solution. Restore your smile and your confidence.

What are Bridges?

A dental bridge literally 'bridges' the gap created by one or more missing teeth. It consists of artificial teeth (pontics) held in place by Crowns attached to the teeth on either side of the gap.

Bridges are a fixed alternative to Dentures — they don't need to be removed and feel like natural teeth. They're ideal for patients with healthy adjacent teeth.

Fixed Solution

Unlike dentures, bridges are cemented in place and don't need to be removed.

Natural Function

Eat, speak, and smile with confidence — bridges function like natural teeth.

Prevents Drift

Filling the gap stops remaining teeth from shifting out of position.

🔹Gum Integration

The bridge is designed to sit naturally with your gum line, ensuring both aesthetic appeal and oral health.

Before Treatment

This clinical view shows the edentulous space (gap) where a tooth is missing. The neighboring teeth are identified as "Support Teeth" – these natural teeth are carefully prepared to act as the stable foundation for your bridge.

Frequently Asked Questions

With proper care, dental bridges typically last 10-15 years or more. Good oral hygiene, regular check-ups, and avoiding very hard or sticky foods help maximise the lifespan of your bridge.

Bridges require supporting teeth on both sides of the gap. For back teeth with nothing behind them, we may recommend a cantilever bridge, partial denture, or dental implant as alternative solutions.

The procedure is performed under local anaesthetic so you should not feel pain. Some sensitivity in the supporting teeth afterward is normal but usually resolves within a few days.

Since a bridge is fixed, you cannot floss conventionally. We will show you how to use special floss threaders or interdental brushes to clean beneath the false tooth, preventing gum disease and decay at the margins.

Absolutely. Modern bridges are crafted from high-quality porcelain that is shade-matched to your surrounding teeth. The false tooth is designed to mimic natural anatomy, so most people cannot tell the difference.

The main alternatives are dental implants, which do not require preparing adjacent teeth, or removable partial dentures. We will discuss the pros, cons, and costs of each option to help you make the best decision for your situation.
